Your healthcare provider will provide your information to the CARLA nurse.
The CARLA nurse will call you to talk about your medical history and current needs.
Based on your answers, the nurse will help you find a hospital where you can have your abortion, help you schedule it, and, if needed, connect you with the Chicago Abortion Fund for financial assistance and/or wrap-around support. This may include travel assistance, lodging, meal stipends, and childcare.
Q: I do not live in Illinois. Can I still be referred to CARLA for care?
A: Yes! CARLA accepts referrals from anywhere in the United States. As of 2024, we have provided navigation support to individuals living in over 24 states. If you require hospital-based abortion care and are interested in coming to Chicago, have your healthcare provider send a referral to CARLA and a nurse will contact you to discuss next steps.
